Lars Ulrich Is To Blame For Lack of Bass

One of the great big mysteries of …And Justice For All was why the bass mix was so low, or perhaps even non-existent. For years, the rumors were it was either done in tribute to their fallen bassist, Cliff Burton, or as some sort of frat-like initiation for new bassist Jason Newsted. But now, we have a clearer picture.

Ultimate-Guitar.com recently conducted an interview with sound engineer Steve Thompson who has worked on a lot of big records including this landmark Metallica release. When asked about the lack of bass guitar on the album, Thompson points the figure at Lars Ulrich as the reason why the music sounds the way it does:

Touche Amore sign with Roc Nation

Touche Amore, the California post-hardcore band, has signed a management deal with Roc Nation, the entertainment and management company owned by Jay Z. The band are the only remotely heavy band on the roster, which includes Capital Cities and Haim alongside other much more mainstream artists like Rihanna, Shakira, Kanye West and Timbaland.

Heavy Metal Youngsters Unlocking The Truth Severing Ties With Sony

According to Billboard.com, UNLOCKING THE TRUTH — the heavy metal band from Flatbush, Brooklyn made up of three African-American boys, guitarist Malcolm Brickhouse, bassist Alec Atkins and drummer Jarad Dawkins — is severing ties with Sony, less than a year after signing with the major label.

"Our attorneys are working on our exit from Sony now," Malcolm Brickhouse said at the world premiere of "Breaking A Monster", a documentary about the band's rise to success.

Megadeth Rumored To Recruit Lamb of God Drummer, Angra Guitarist For New Album

All the pieces are finally falling into place.

After months of speculation, Blabbermouth says the word on the street is Megadeth will be hiring Lamb of God drummer Chris Adler and Angra guitarist Kiko Loureiro to record on their new album. Rumors have been running rampant ever since guitarist Chris Broderick and drummer Shawn Drover quit the band and went on to form their own project, Act of Defiance.

Mike Portnoy Slams U.K. Hospital For 'Not Seeing' Him

Former DREAM THEATER drummer Mike Portnoy, who is currently touring Europe with THE NEAL MORSE BAND, has slammed the staff at the Whittington Hospital in London, England for allegedly refusing to see him quickly enough so that he could make it in time to the Islington Assembly Hall, where the group is scheduled to perform tonight.

In a post on his Facebook page, Portnoy wrote: "A very special NO THANKS to the staff at the Whittington Hospital for NOT seeing me regardless of telling them that there is an audience waiting for our show to begin... I finally left withOUT seeing a doctor in order to make tonight's show... I have no idea how the hell I'm going to make it through this show...I can't even stand up or lift my arms... : ("

Metallica Have Close To 20 Songs Written For Their New album

Metallica have been keeping a relatively low profile as of late. While last year, they scored a Guinness World Record, performedat a baseball game, acted in a SportsCenter andnarrated hunting shows, this year seems to be all aboutblueprinting and writing a new album, bachelor party aside.

In a new update from Lars Ulrich to Rolling Stone, the drummer reveals that the band has about 20 new songs ready to go for the new album, with the band hoping to start pre-production soon. They are in the "honing" and "tweaking" phase. Lars makes sure to state that the band is writing every day but it's still early in the process. That's progress, right?

Metallica Releasing 1982 Demo

In celebration of Record Store Day on April 18th, Metallica will release "No Life 'til Leather" as a limited edition cassette.

The seven tracks were recorded in 1982 in Tustin, CA by the band's original lineup of James Hetfield: lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Lars Ulrich: drums, Dave Mustaine: lead guitar, and Ron McGovney: bass.

Straight from the archives, the original source material has been re-mastered to maximize the sound potential for 2015 without altering the original mixes. Metallica comments:

Sepultura Announces North American Tour

Do legacies ever fade? Not when Brazilian blood is involved.

Morgoth - Ungod CD

“Ungod” is the first album by German death metal group Morgoth in 19 years. The band released the two-song single “God is Evil” last year, which gave us a good idea about the coming sound on “Ungod,” although with a different singer. That sound is a return to churning death metal that comprised first two albums “Cursed” and “Odium.”

Lay Down Rotten Laid To Rot

Original Broken Hope Drummer Dies At 42

Broken Hope's co-founding drummer Ryan Stanek passed away at the age of 42 on March 1. States Broken Hope guitarist Jeremy Wagner about Stanek's unexpected death: "I was stunned to hear of Ryan's passing and I'm still not believing it. Though Ryan and I didn't talk that often since he split from Broken Hope many years ago, we did correspond once in awhile, and we always wished each other well in whatever endeavors we were pursuing.

Shawn Drover Announces New Band Act Of Defiance

Upon exiting the ranks of Megadeth, the metal world eagerly awaited news as to what was next for Chris Broderick (guitars) and Shawn Drover (drums).

The duo is now excited to announce a worldwide signing to Metal Blade Records for new group Act Of Defiance, which is rounded out by Henry Derek (ex-Scar The Martyr) on vocals and Matt Bachand (Shadows Fall) on bass.

Act Of Defiance is recording a debut offering with world renowned producer Zeuss (Rob Zombie, Hatebreed, Shadows Fall). Look for this album to be released sometime this Summer.

Hellsaw Calling It Quits

The Austrian black metallers from Hellsaw have announced they will be disbanding after their last live performance at the "Black N Thrash Inferno" in Germany on March 27th. Explains vocalist Aries:

"We have to inform you that the Black’n Trash Inferno will be our last concert. Our previously confirmed two Concert’s at the Dark Easter Metal Meeting and the Kaltenbach Open Air are canceled.

Former Yngwie Malmsteen Keyboardist Found Dead

According to the Chaingrai Times, former Yngwie Malmsteen keyboardist Mats Olausson, best known for his work on albums such as "Eclipse," "Seventh Sign" and "Magnum Opus" was found dead in Thailand in a hotel room in downtown Rayong yesterday.

The report from the Chaingrai Times website reads in part: "Pol Maj Gen Chumphon Chanthachamrassil has reported that 54-year-old Swedish Musician Mats Johan Olausson, has been found dead inside a hotel room in downtown Rayong on Thursday afternoon."
