One of the great big mysteries of …And Justice For All was why the bass mix was so low, or perhaps even non-existent. For years, the rumors were it was either done in tribute to their fallen bassist, Cliff Burton, or as some sort of frat-like initiation for new bassist Jason Newsted. Ultimate-Guitar.com recently conducted an interview with sound engineer Steve Thompson who has worked on a lot of big records including this landmark Metallica release. When asked about the lack of bass guitar on the album, Thompson points the figure at Lars Ulrich as the reason why the music sounds the way it does:

Metallica Have Close To 20 Songs Written For Their New album
Metallica have been keeping a relatively low profile as of late. While last year, they scored a Guinness World Record, performedat a baseball game, acted in a SportsCenter andnarrated hunting shows, this year seems to be all aboutblueprinting and writing a new album, bachelor party aside.
In a new update from Lars Ulrich to Rolling Stone, the drummer reveals that the band has about 20 new songs ready to go for the new album, with the band hoping to start pre-production soon. They are in the "honing" and "tweaking" phase. Lars makes sure to state that the band is writing every day but it's still early in the process. That's progress, right?

Morgoth - Ungod CD
Reviewed on March 3, 2015
"Musically, fans of Morgoth’s albums need not fret over the band making another 'Feel Sorry For the Fanatic' industrial album. 'Ungod' truly bridges the gap between 'Cursed' and 'Odium.'"
“Ungod” is the first album by German death metal group Morgoth in 19 years. The band released the two-song single “God is Evil” last year, which gave us a good idea about the coming sound on “Ungod,” although with a different singer. That sound is a return to churning death metal that comprised first two albums “Cursed” and “Odium.”
